Ecological Informatics: An IntroductionOur chapter in the book “Ecological Informatics – Data Management and Knowledge Discovery” is finally published. The chapter “GIS-Based Data Synthesis and Visualization” lead by Duccio Rocchini deals with visualizing spatial uncertainty in species distribution based on cartograms, as well as fuzzy methods to synthesize species distribution uncertainty. Remote sensing data analysis and measuring ecological diversity from space are covered as well. Examples using the free and open source software GRASS GIS and R are provided.
